AMBULANCES IN THE NETHERLANDS ARE OFTEN TOO LATE IN EMERGENCIES

70% of the Dutch emergency regions are struggling to meet the governments mandated threshold for ambulance response times. This is mainly due to the strong rise in the amount of medical emergencies in combination with a shortage of qualified ambulance and dispatch personnel. In Amsterdam this problem has caused the average time until an ambulance is dispatched to be almost a full minute more than in other Dutch ambulance regions.

CURRENT AMBULANCE RESPONSE TIME TARGETS NOT MET IN IRELAND

Approximately 40% of emergencies in Ireland occur in rural locations. A recent report commissioned by the Health Service Executive shows that there are difficulties reaching these emergencies within their response time targets. The report includes 17 different recommendations, including investments in control room technology and reconsidering the location and capacity of their deployment points.

SAVING TIME SAVES LIVES

Statistics indicate that response times have a strong influence on patient survival rate in cardiac arrest cases. Research indicates that a survival rate of as high as 90% is possible when a cardiac patient is defibrillated immediately. Yet each minute that passes strips an extra 10% off of the patients chance for survival.

ZAGREB INTRODUCING MOTORCYLE EMS

Zagreb has recently announced the addition of a medical technician on a motorcycle to their cities ambulance fleet. This unit will be located at the city center to cover the area with the most traffic congestion and is expected to cut the response time by as much as half.
