Health Innovation Seed Fund III B.V. invests in Stokhos emergency mathematics
CWI spin-off company Stokhos emergency mathematics will receive an investment of Health Innovation Seed
Fund III. With this financial injection Stokhos aims to further optimize its software called Seconds,
to achieve a scale-up and further international expansion. Stokhos’ objective is to become a world
leader in the area of emergency mathematics eventually. CEO Vincent van den Brekel:
“We are very glad to be noticing an increasing client demand towards Stokhos. This investment allows us
to scale-up the product and to meet the growing demand. The first foreign prospects have already reported
themselves to us and therefore the team will expand on short notice.”
Stokhos provides software solutions which enable the proactive relocation of emergency services based on
predictions of future demand. The software products are mainly used for the optimization of ambulance
services at the moment: ambulances arrive on the spot faster, and thereby make it possible to actually
save lives. The software is applicable to other services like the fire brigade, police and roadside
assistance as well. A number of ambulances service already satisfactorily work with the Stokhos software
and the interest for implementation in other – also foreign – regions is large. The company is already
active on the German market since 2017 in the form of a cooperation
with LIS Leitstellen.
The spin-off originates from the research project REPRO, executed by the
Stochastics group of CWI
in cooperation with Delft University of Technology and funded by STW (now the NWO Domain Science).
Dick Broekhuis, director of CWI’s holding CWI Inc.: “We consider it of the utmost importance that our
research has a direct impact on society. Therefore we regarded the Stokhos software as having great
potential. It is very satisfying that Stokhos will now get the chance to expand, so even more people
can profit from more efficient service by emergency services.”
Stokhos was launched with help of a Take-Off Grant of Technology Foundation STW, which is aimed at accelerating innovations based on scientific research.
